A dental implant is made of a titanium root-shaped post that replaces the natural root. The implant is placed in the jawbone where it is left to form an intimate connection with the surrounding bone. After a 3-6 month healing process, a crown is made and placed on the implant, replicating the look and feel of a natural tooth.
An implant requires no special maintenance beyond regular brushing and flossing. It also stimulates jawbone growth and does not shift out of place while speaking or chewing.
